ACAMIS Volleyball Planning

I was a part of the planning committee for the ACAMIS Volleyball tournament. It was being held at our school; therefore, there is a big responsibility in organization to present our school the best. Before this tournament, I have experience in planning the NUX basketball.

One of the most challenging aspects of planning for this tournament was finding time to meet with Mr. Go (main organizer) and the other students that are organizing the event. There are at times when I had a lot of homework and didn’t feel like organizing this tournament. What kept me going is that fact that I am participating in the tournament as a volleyball player, and therefore I know what it feels like to go to another school, hoping to receive the most organized tournament. Some things we had to do was making a schedule for all the student officials, and that was the most complicated process. Many students tell me they cannot go on after I have created the schedule and one change will lead to many other changes. The struggle during that process made me realize the importance of being a good leader. Sometimes I allow the student officials to change their shifts just because I do not want them to dislike me or quit being an official. However, sometimes this leads to procrastination because work cannot be done. An important trait about being a leader is to be strict sometimes. Being too flexible will make the followers take on the advantage of not doing their work. Finding the balance between what it takes to be organized and what it takes for people to listen to you as a leader is very important.

Being committed in this activity is difficult due to its many challenges. Not only from working with others, being the leader, but more from the stress to plan this activity while handling large amount of school work. Moreover, it developed my personal skills of initiating a big tournament with the help of Mr. Go and other students. This tournament proved how impactful procrastination is because the date of the tournament is set, and everything must be completed on time in order to provide the best service for other schools. I believe I am a pretty responsible individual; therefore, when something is not completed I will feel very nervous. In general, the experience of the tournament was very helpful, and when the tournament ended I felt extremely proud of myself for being a part of the planning team.
